Maybe Seuss had it right, ch. 7

The Waiting Place…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go or a bus to come, or a plane to go or the mail to come, or the rain to go or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow or waiting around for a Yes or No or waiting for their hair to grow. Everyone is just waiting.
- Seuss

That was me, literally, as the new school year began. If the phone rang, I jumped. If mail came, was it a new opportunity or another rejection letter. Would I ever get the 'Yes' I was waiting for?

As August ended and September began, still nothing. Fortunately, I was able to continue substituting where I was the previous while everyone kept telling me to wait until after Labor Day for school's to get their final counts. Wait. Waiting I could do, I had already been doing it forever.

Labor Day came and went. Now I hope you have not misunderstood. I was never just sitting on my bum waiting. I was always searching and always emailing anyone I knew to find any lead I could. If anyone told me to contact a principal, I did it immediately. A few weeks later, I believe it was a Tuesday (though truth be told it really could have been a Monday!) my phone rang. On that day I did not think much of it. I had not sent a resume off in a week or so. The only thing I wondered was, 'Who could be calling me? All my friends are at work!" As I answered the phone I lowered the volume of The View.

"Is Sydney there please?"
"This is she (totally trying not to sound too giddy or excited - by then I had learned not to get excited about anything but at that point I'd take it.)"
"This is _____ ______, the principal at _________ Elementary School........"

When the phone call was actually taking place I was so overwhelmed that I really did not comprehend her name, let alone hear the actual name of the school (Shoot! I had seriously sent SO many resumes at that point that if you were calling me I needed you to be clear. Calm down!). She asked if I wanted to come in that day. Did I want to? Yes! Did I still have on my pajamas? Yes. I had to mentally prepare. The next day it was. I had a really good feeling about this.
